About me

Hello! My name is Joey Lamborn and I am a second-year physics student at American University. I am currently on track to study computer science at Columbia University through American University’s Engineering Joint Degree Program.

Experiences

Teaching Assistant - CSC-280

August 2019 - Present
American University Dept. of Computer Science

As a teaching assistant for CSC-280 (Intro to Computer Science I), I am responsible for reviewing and grading students’ Python code and teaching essential computer science concepts. I am given the opportunity to engage one-on-one with students to reinforce concepts taught in class as well as debug code. With the opportunity to teach Python, my knowledge of the language has grown exponentially. It’s hard to teach something if you don’t know it inside and out!

Legislative Intern

Summer 2017, Summer 2018
Philadelphia City Council, City of Philadelphia

As an intern under Councilwoman Reynolds Brown, I assisted with legislation proposals, attended policy briefings, researched specific topics of concern, and conducted various administrative duties. I gained a valuable understanding of an intern’s role in a team, and I learned alot about how to effectively communicatie in a team-setting.

Projects

Here's some of the stuff I've been working on lately!

slogan-maker - An application written in Java that uses social media data files to create slogans that resemble real speech. User can input an acronym, and program will return a realistic slogan if one can be made.
Python Data Analysis - This project was done for a friend studying international relations. I used Python to parse a large data file regarding ethnic enclaves. I used matplotlib and the scipy library for all graphs and statistics.
